Button to resign Columbia County Health District post

DAYTON -- Columbia County Health System chief executive Charlie Button will leave the public hospital district May 9, according to a press release.

Button accepted a position as president and CEO of a larger critical access hospital in another state, board member Jim Kime said Monday.

Button's 60-day notice comes two weeks short of four years with the district. He came to Dayton from Mauston, Wis., where he was chief financial officer at Miles Bluff Medical Center. He has also previously worked in Wilsonville, Ore.; Homer, Alaska; and in Idaho.

Button said in the press release that his decision has nothing to do with any conflict or issues at CCHS.

"I simply got an offer that I could not pass up," he said.

Columbia County Health System, also known asColumbia County Public Health District, includes Dayton General Hospital, Booker Rest Home, and clinics in Waitsburg and Dayton.

"I will truly miss working for a great board and staff and living in this community," Button said in the press release.

Button did not return phone calls from the U-B for comment on Monday or Tuesday morning.
