WESTON -- Efforts to weld a leaking water pipe failed Tuesday afternoon, due in part to the age of the pipe.

"Due to the location of the crack and condition of the pipe, the weld did not hold," a press release stated.

The water line serves roughly nine houses outside of Weston city limits and also is the secondary line for Smith Frozen Foods. The leak was discovered Monday.

Repair crews will temporarily cap the pipe until a new "Y" fitting can be installed according to city police Sgt. Joshua Henningsen.
