PASCO - DeSales' Ryan Baumgart and Jerod Konen matched 3-over-par 30s here Thursday afternoon at Golf Land to share boys medalist honors in a season-opening small-school golf triangular.
And Baumgart's younger sister Emily, an eighth grader at Assumption Middle School, shot 35 to claim medalist on the girls side.
"It was a good way to start the season," DeSales coach Lon Olson said. "And the weather wasn't bad, either, fairly warm although it got a little breezy at times.
"We were glad to leave the rain behind in Walla Walla."
DeSales placed first in the team scoring with a 129 tally for its top four players. Liberty Christian finished second at 139 and Tri-Cities Prep was third with a 157 score.
The Irish girls scored 122 for their top three players and finished second, 10 shots behind Tri-Cities Prep's 112 winning score. Liberty Christian was third at 140.
Ryan Baumgart and Konen finished three shots in front of a trio of players who shared third place. That group included Scott Kimball and Lucas Lyons of DeSales as well as Isaiah Ojeda of Liberty Christian.
Other DeSales scores were Bryce Scott 36, Ben Miedema 38, Daniel Schaefer 40, Mike Caudill 43, Adam Tompkins 46, and Andrew Hayunga and Robert Kelly, tied at 50.
Dakota Baker, who practices with the DeSales team but represents Waitsburg-Prescott, shot 37. Tommy Windisch was Tri-Cities Prep's best scorer with a 36.
Emily Baumgart finished two shots in front of a pair of Tri-Cities Prep players, Alexis Armijo and Francesca Lahoz, who matched scores of 37. Michelle Troup was Liberty Christian's leader with a 41.
Other DeSales girls scores were Ashton Montgomery 41, Alyssa Lyons 46 and Rachel Heitstuman 54.
There were a total of 23 boys and 14 girls entered.
The same three schools will get together Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Golf Course in Walla Walla for a nine-hole match. Play begins at 2 p.m.
