WALLA WALLA - The Walla Walla Sweets have added two pitchers to the roster for the 2012 season of West Coast League baseball.
Doug Ashby, a sophomore from Baylor University, and Ben Ruff, who played for the Wenatchee Applesox last season, will both play in Walla Walla this summer.
Ruff, a 5-foot 10-inch, 195-pound, right-hander from Fife, Wash., is no stranger to the West Coast League. Last season he pitched for the Wenatchee Applesox and in the summer of 2010 he played for the Bellingham Bells.
In 2011 for the Applesox Ruff appeared in 22 games with 29.1 innings pitched and an ERA of 2.45. He struck out 25 batters while only allowing 14 hits, and earning one save. In 2010 with the Bells, Ruff went 2-2 with a 1.77 ERA and recorded nine saves.
Ashby, is a 6-foot 1-inch, 185-pound, left-hander and a native of McKinney, Texas.
Last season for Baylor University, Ashby made just one relief appearance. This season he has appeared in four games, and has allowed five hits and three runs while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings of work.
