WALLA WALLA -- Little anglers can cast for free, without a license, to try and catch one of 500 catchable-size trout that were dumped into Jefferson Park Pond on Thursday.
The Lyons Ferry Fish Hatchery provided the fish as part of a State Department of Fish and Wildlife program to encourage the sport.
The Jefferson Park Pond is a designated juvenile fishing area for youths 14 and younger.
No permits are required by children or accompanying adults.
Adults may not fish on their own, and are only allowed to help bait a hook and remove a caught fish; adults may not cast or hold the pole for the child.
Fishing at the park is year round from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
No boats or floating devices are allowed in the pond.
In addition to the 500 catchable trout, 50 jumbo trout about 14 inches or larger were also planted.
