Wa-Hi boys tennis team went unscathed in their Columbia Basin Big Nine conference opener against Southridge Friday, rolling to a 7-0 victory.
In singles play, Wa-Hi's Blake Rowley defeated Brandon Wright 6-3, 6-2 and Blue Devil Josh Kuznetsov stormed past Kendal Marrott in straight sets, 6-1 ,6-1.
The Blue Devils' Drew Swenson defeated James Perez, 6-0, 6-3, while Wa-Hi's newcomer to varsity, Zack Anderson, "finished strongly in a 7-5, 7-6 win over veteran Parker Dickin," Wa-Hi coach Ted Cummings said.
In doubles Wa-Hi's John Meliah and Doug Rowley defeated Tyler Dawson and Austin Miller, 6-4, 6-1, and Lane Dawes and Conner Christensen of Wa-Hi overcame Nathan Petersen and Kieran Doherty, 6-2, 6-4. Drew Bateman and Nick Fuller defeated Spencer Vorheis and Jake Goetz, 2-1 (6-3, 6-7, 7-6) to round out the Blue Devil victory.
"This was not a bad showing for our season opening dual match," Cummings said. "It was obvious from the first stroke that the Blue Devils were ‘ready to rock' following our great team performance last weekend (placing second at the Yakima Coke Classic).
"With our historic strength in doubles and solid group of singles guys, we should experience some great success this season," Cummings said.
The Blue Devils travel to Davis Thursday for a 3 p.m. match against the Pirates.
