WALLA WALLA - Walla Walla Community College put it all together here Saturday in NWAACC non-conference baseball action.
The Warriors pounded out 24 hits, got good pitching, and only committed three errors in sweeping Skagit Valley 9-1 and 13-3.
"We did all the little things well," Warrior coach Dave Meliah said. "We put a lot of pressure on them defensively. It was a very satisfying day."
The Warriors scored in each of the first four innings of the opener to take an 8-0 lead. That was more than enough for southpaw starting pitcher Joe Arlt.
Arlt went eight innings, struck out four, and gave up three hits. Ryan James came on in the ninth to close out the Cardinal.
"Joe threw outstanding," Meliah said. "He controlled the tempo and had quick innings."
The offense pounded out 11 hits and scored nine times as WWCC posted a 9-1 win.
Cody Poznanski, Tony Salas, and Michael Kilpatrick led the Warrior hitters with two hits each.
Salas and Kasey Knigge had RBI singles to highlight the Warrior first of the nightcap and WWCC was off and running with a 3-0 lead after one.
Garrett Puckett knocked in two in a five-run Warrior fifth and doubled in a run in the four-run Warrior seventh. Puckett led the 13 hit Warrior attack with three hits and three RBIs.
Wa-Hi grad Jake Campeau earned the win on the mound for WWCC. Campeau went six, giving up five hits, and striking out four.
The Warriors improve to 7-3 on the season and host Prairie Academy today at 11 a.m.
