WALLA WALLA - Wa-Hi's girls tennis team fell to visiting Southridge, 5-2, Friday.
Blue Devils Allison Mehn and Mari Arceo picked up victories in the match.
"Today's crossover with Southridge was important because we had a chance to face different competition other than ourselves," Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said. "It gets tough to simulate a match atmosphere when you are facing the same teammates every day. Today's competition allowed us to find out where we are strong and where we need work. I am confident the girls took away important information that will help them get better as the season progresses.
"The highlight of the day was Allison (Mehn) and Mari (Arceo) both getting their first singles wins," Peck said. "Allison has worked hard in the offseason and really developed her singles game. She stayed discipline and waited for her opportunities to win points.
"Mari just plain gets to everything and never gives up on a point," he said. "The cornerstone of her game is determination, and it showed today in a big win."
Wa-Hi next travels to Davis Thursday afternoon.
"I'm really proud of the way the girls battled today," Peck said.
