WALLA WALLA - The American Cancer Society will be celebrating the first birthday of its resource center at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla on March 29.
The public is invited to attend the open house from 5-7 p.m. at St. Mary's Regional Cancer Center.
Along with enjoying traditional birthday refreshments and music, people can tour the resource center and learn what programs, services and resources are available to cancer patients and the community.
Trained American Cancer Society Cancer Resource Center volunteers offer information regarding the cancer diagnoses, types of treatment - including chemotherapy and radiation - and early detection and risk reduction. They also have access to information regarding community programs and services, ongoing cancer research, and dates and times for local American Cancer Society programs.
"Over the past year, our volunteers have helped more than 300 patients, their families and caregivers get through their cancer ordeal," said Cynthia Rozyla, District Quality of Life Manager for the American Cancer Society. "Our volunteers and this facility have been a beacon in the night for those who never thought they would ever hear the words: ‘You have cancer.'"
