Longtime area resident, Roy Dean Norris, 60, died March 19, 2012, at the home of his father-in-law, Don Hamilton, in Walla Walla.
Roy was born Jan. 10, 1952, in Pendleton, to JB and Donna (Oliver) Norris. He attended schools in Dayton. On Feb. 10, 1973, he and Trena Hamilton married in Walla Walla. He had worked as a lumberman at one time; however, most of his career was spent as a mechanic at D K Frozen Foods, then for Hermiston Foods. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed rodeo, watching bull riding and training race horses. For the last couple of years, he had enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. His grandchildren were his delight and he loved spending time with them. He was a member of the Junior Wagon Wheelers and Wagon Wheelers.
Roy is survived by his wife at their home in Umatilla; three daughters, Kristy Norris of Hamilton, Mont., Julie Norris of Walla Walla and Jessica Austin of Hermiston; a son, Donald Roy Norris of Umatilla; his mother, Donna Norris of Dayton; two sisters, Penny Hazelbaker of Waitsburg and Sy McGill of Dayton; three brothers, Fred Norris and Bob Norris, both of Pomeroy; and Donny Norris also of Dayton; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and 17 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, JB Norris.
There will be an open house celebration of his life from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 24, at the family home in Umatilla. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center through Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles
