Glen C. Mills, Athena, passed away March 17, 2012, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, at the age of 66 years. Memorial services will be Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Athena Baptist Church with Pastor John Nichols officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pioneer Posse through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
Mr. Mills was born Feb. 6, 1946, in Woodland, Calif., the son of Chester F. and Martha M. Payne Mills. He grew up in Robbins, Calif., and graduated from Yuba City High School. In his youth, he raced motorcycles and competed in rodeos. He married Twila Stacklie and the couple were later divorced. Mr. Mills had worked in California and Oregon with their county road departments, farming jobs and ambulance services. He had also worked for the Washington State Penitentiary and a volunteer with the East Umatilla County Health District and the Umatilla Rural Fire Dept., and retired from Smith Frozen Foods. On Nov. 13, 1999, he married Deborah Barnes in Walla Walla. He enjoyed woodworking and participating in the activities of the Pioneer Posse.
Mr. Mills is survived by his wife, Deborah Mills at the home; sons, Chet and Travis Mills both of Weston, Colton Mills of Morgantown, W. VA, Nathan Waggoner of Roseburg, Wash.; daughters, Peppi Pettyjohn of Richland, Shannon Griffin of Pendleton; uncle Eldon K. Payne of Santa Ana, Calif.; grandchildren, Justice and Tabor Mills, Nakesha Willingham and Madisyn Moran; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Everett, Richard and Layne Mills.
