Artist's work featured at Crow's Shadow


PENDLETON -- Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts, 48004 St. Andrews Road, will hold a reception for Sacramento-based artist and poet Frank LaPena from 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 29 . LaPena is completing a two-week printmaking residency.

He will also give a gallery presentation on his career and work made at Crow's Shadow.

As a member of the Wintu people of Northern California, much of LaPena's lifework has drawn upon and incorporated the traditions, images and philosophies of his indigenous culture.

LaPena first exhibited in 1960 and has worked in painting, printmaking, sculpture, poetry, dance and mixed media.

He is also a retired professor of art and ethnic studies and former director of the Native American studies at California State University in Sacramento.
