Members of the Touchet School Board are Jody Kromm, Robert Schaeffer, Mandy Thompson, Michael McCubbins and Darren Goble. With all present Tuesday the board:

  • BUILDING UPDATE: Approved contract with BLRB Architect firm to conduct a study and survey facility assessment of the secondary building. Also approved a contract with Palmer Roofing to make repairs to the district-owned duplex. The duplex roof was damaged by wind in a storm three weeks ago. Unanimous for both.

  • ENROLLMENT: Learned enrollment is up slightly from the year's average of 248 full time equivalent students, with 251 FTE for March. The budget is based on a revised number of 245 students.

  • FIELD TRIPS: Approved overnight field trip to Olympia May 18-19 for Project Citizen, and to Camp Wooten May 29-June 1 for sixth graders. Unanimous.


  • PERSONNEL: Approved LeLand Weber as middle school head softball coach and Scott Plucker as high school assistant softball coach. Following an executive session for evaluation and contract negotiation extension voted to approve a 3-year contract for Superintendent Susan Bell. Unanimous for all.


  • EVALUATION PILOT: Discussed Teacher/Principal Evaluation project, which all districts in the state are required to adopt by 2013. Touchet is not participating in a pilot, but three models are being strongly suggested for consideration, Bell said.


  • NEWS: Voted to donate $250 to the Network for Excellence in Washington Schools. Unanimous.


  • BUDGET: Approved March payroll for $208,286, general fund expenditures for March for $42,525, and ASB expenditures for March for $11,859. Unanimous.


  • SENIORS: Learned that 22 seniors are currently expected to graduate.


  • CCSS: Learned some teachers will receive training in Common Core State Standards in June.

  • CARNIVAL: Learned the senior carnival is March 30 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event is a fund-raiser for the senior class to pay for their sneak.
