March 28, 1934 - March 12, 2012
Inga-Britta Modin of Bend passed away peacefully March 12, 2012, with her daughter, Anneli, by her side. She was 77. Inga was born March 28, 1934, in Mora, Sweden, to Karin and Harald Modin. Inga loved the outdoors and spent her childhood swimming, hiking and skiing. She had a wonderful sense of adventure that led her to hitchhike around Europe and then in 1957 she traveled to the U.S.
Inga found work in Southern California and then love when a mutual friend introduced her to a young photographer by the name of Ron Carlson. Ron and Inga married and first settled in Manhatten Beach, Calif., to raise their four children, then in 1974 they moved north to Waitsburg. An avid gardner, Inga created beautiful flower and vegetable gardens wherever she lived. Inga loved dancing, sewing, knitting and reading and was a lifelong student of languages. She worked as a pre-school teacher, ski instructor and taught English and Swedish.
Inga is survived by her sister, Aina of Stockholm, Sweden; her children, Stephen Carlson of Eugene, Berit (Carlson) and T.J. Fagan of Vero Beach, Fla., Anneli (Carlson) and Jeff Aston of Walla Walla, Tina Carlson and Gary Griffin of Bend; and four grandchildren, Ryan Kegerreis, Justin Fagan, Jordan Aston and Eric Aston. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son-in-law, David Hilemon.
Services will be held in Walla Walla on July 14, 2012, at 3 p.m., and in Mora, Sweden. The date for the service in Mora is still pending. For more information, please call 541-480-7129.
