Ruth Phillips
Jan. 22, 1926 - March 20, 2012

Ruth Klicker-Hanson-Phillips, whose father claimed 4 sons each had a sister, has gone to be with the Lord.

Ruth was born to Jake Ethel Klicker on Jan. 22, 1926, in Walla Walla. She grew up living on the Klicker Homestead located on Mill Creek Road. Ruth graduated from Wa-Hi and then attended WSU. While working at the Walla Walla Airport as secretary to the airport manager, she met married Harold Hanson. They raised four children on the Mill Creek Reservoir Road. After a divorce, she became a legal secretary for Steven Ringhoffer in Walla Walla. Ruth then moved to California where she also worked as a legal secretary. She returned to Walla Walla to care for her ailing father and was one of the first Hospice Caregivers in the Walla Walla Valley. In 1992, at a class reunion, she met up with her high school sweetheart, Howard Phillips, who was living in California at the time. They courted long distance for a couple of years and married in 1994. Ruth then moved back to California where she Howard lived until his death in 2003. Upon his death, she moved back to Walla Walla to be near her family.

Ruth enjoyed sailing, horseback riding and was an avid reader. She was very artistic in her sculpting, flower arranging and sewing. Many young women learned to sew from her in 4-H. This "Lovely Lady" gave unconditional love to all. Her home was always open to anyone who was in need of love. Many passed through her doors over the years.

Ruth's family would like to express their appreciation for the love care that the Country View Senior Care staff gave her in the final years.

Ruth will be missed by her family friends. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Ted (Jane) Hanson, Jean Hanson, Don (Shari) Hanson and Dale Ann (Karl) Hartzheim. Also her beloved husband Howard's children, Chris (Joe) Diglio and Dan (Melanie) Phillips; brothers, Jake Klicker, Bob (Nancy) Klicker, Don (Jackie) Klicker, Del Klicker; sister-in-law, Ardel Klicker all of Walla Walla.
