WWCC culinary students place third at regional competition

WALLA WALLA -- Culinary students at Walla Walla Community College took home a bronze medal after competing in the American Culinary Federation's Western Region Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge Bowl March 12.

The competition took place during ACF's Western Regional Conference in Sparks, Nevada, from March 12-14. The Knowledge Bowl is a "Jepoardy"-style competition that poses questions about food handling and preparation to contestants.

Walla Walla Community College was represented by students Catherine Chapman, Kathleen Claymore, Nicole Hardin, Heidi Varney and Mark Young. The team is coached by Gregory Schnorr.

They competed against six teams from western states including Alaska, California, Colorado and Washington. The gold medal went to the Lake Washington Institute of Technology in Kirkland.

The conference drew hundreds and provided opportunities to learn and advance in culinary skills, through seminars, cooking demonstrations, competitions and awards.
