Traffic halted as officers use Taser to subdue man

WALLA WALLA - A Friday afternoon arrest ended with one man tasered by deputies and the southbound lane of SR 125 closed during the arrest.

According to a Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office report, deputies spotted Reuben James Wentz, 29, walking some dogs on the southbound side of the highway, about a quarter-mile south of the entrance to the farm labor camp at around 2:45 p.m.

Deputies pulled over and ordered Wentz to halt because he was wanted by the Sheriff's Office and Walla Walla Police.

According to the report, Wentz refused to stop and at one point displayed a box-cutter in a threatening manner at two deputies.

Deputies shot Wentz three times with tasers until he was finally compliant, according to the report.

The arrest also closed off traffic to the southbound lane for a short while.

Wentz was arrested on investigation of second degree assault and resisting arrest.

As of Saturday afternoon, he was still being booked in Walla Walla County Jail.
