Buckaroos battle Wa-Hi down to wire

The Blue Devils pick up a 1-0 victory over the 2011 Oregon state runners-up in a tight pitchers' duel.

PENDLETON - Wa-Hi triumphed over the Pendleton softball team in a non-league affair, 1-0, here Friday afternoon in a pitcher's duel.

Alyson Ambler pitched a complete-game, 2-hit shutout for the Blue Devils and Pendleton's Kristen Crawford struck out four in her full-game effort.

Ambler had two hits at plate and struck out 11 while in the circle.

Andrea Hamada was the only Blue Devil to cross home plate. She reached base when she was hit by a pitch. Ambler singled Hamada to third and catcher TraeAnne Payne stroked an RBI single.

"(Kristen) Crawford is the hardest throwing pitcher we've faced this year," Wa-Hi coach Jerry Humphreys said. "We scratched out a run and went from there with Ambler pitching for us."

Pendleton was the Oregon 5A state runner-up in 2011.

Wa-Hi (2-0) plays again in a league double header Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Murr Field.
