Dayton capitalizes on errors, routs Tri-Cities Prep

PASCO - Field conditions pushed Dayton's home softball opener to Pasco, but the Bulldogs were happy to finally get outside as they swept Tri-Cities Prep in their Southeast 2B openers.

Dayton scored the winner in the bottom of the seventh to take an 11-10 opening win.

The Bulldogs capitalized on 14 Jaguar errors and rapped out 22 hits to complete the sweep with a 24-6 win.

"It was nice to get out and play on a field," Bulldog assistant coach Desi Jones said. "We got to face live pitching and get the cobwebs worked out."

Samantha Harting struck out 13 in going the distance in the circle in the Bulldogs opening win.

After the Jaguars got a seventh inning run to tie at 10-10 in the opener, Lexus Ward led off the Dayton seventh with a triple.

Two outs later, Jessica Tate posted a walk-off double as Dayton bounced back to win 11-10.

McKayla Bickelhaupt ripped a home run to highlight the Dayton 22-hit attack in the second game. Harting collected five hits, Tate, Nicole Lambert, Bickelhaupt, and Taylor Frame each added three hits as the Bulldog attack broke this one open with a 10-run seventh.

Dayton, 2-0 in league, hosts Asotin Saturday at 10 a.m. in a Southeast 2B doubleheader.
