Waitsburg-Prescott splits with Asotin

PRESCOTT - Waitsburg-Prescott opened its softball season here Saturday with an 8-2 win over Asotin in Southeast 2B league action, but the Panthers bounced back to take an 11-8 win in the nightcap.

"We played well for our first two games," W-P coach Angie Potts said. "It's not often you open with only two errors (on the day). We got beat by two home runs (in the second game). I'm happy as this shows well for the rest of the season."

Samantha Moss collected two hits to lead the seven-hit W-P attack in the opener. Katy Hofer and Rhiannon Chapman both had RBI doubles in the five-run W-P fifth which broke open a 3-2 game and propelled W-P to the 8-2 win.

The Panthers got home runs from McKenzie Mullins and Jalisa Jose in the second game to earn the split.

Dionna Baker collected three hits, Hailey Goenen and Chapman each added two for W-P.
