IRRIGON, Ore. - Weston-McEwen's baseball team opened the Riverside Tournament with a 13-3 loss to Kennedy Monday, but turned it around in the second game of the day for a 10-2 win over Elgin.
The games were just the second and third of the season for the TigerScots.
"The Kennedy game was closer than the score," TigerScots coach T.J. Haguewood said. "Pitching-wise, we threw pretty well. We gave up too many walks, and that hurt us."
Kennedy racked up eight fourth-inning runs to open its lead.
"In the fourth inning, they had one hit and were up 5-0," Haguewood said, as the TigerScots walked the bases loaded and a popup caught the wind and fell in.
"It kind of got away from us," Haguewood said.
"The second game, our pitchers threw well," he said. "Elliot (Salter) and Nick (Lively) did a good job throwing strikes."
Dallas Reich had five hits in the two games for the TigerScots.
"I'm pleased with how our guys are battling," Haguewood said. "We need to raise our game a little bit more, but our guys are starting to get their baseball legs underneath them. We're still kind of raw in terms of game situations. I think the boys are doing a good job. I'm proud of them."
The TigerScots play tournament host Riverside at 2 p.m. today.
