BURBANK - Waitsburg-Prescott's softball team squeaked by Burbank with a 12-10 victory to start Tuesday's doubleheader and crushed the Coyotes, 14-5, in the nightcap to earn a sweep of the Class 1A foes.
W-P's Rhiannon Chapman had three doubles and 10 RBIs in the twin bill (five in each game).
"She (Chapman) hit gaps - nothing that was over anybody heads - but really fast and into the outfield," W-P coach Angie Potts said. "The girls (W-P) were aggressive on the bases and did what they needed to do. We didn't leave too many on base, which was a nice change from our second game at Asotin last week (an 11-8 loss)."
Potts said W-P was slightly nervous heading into the doubleheader with Burbank - and a four-run Burbank first inning didn't help the nerves.
"The girls were nervous going in against a team whose school was a little bit bigger," Potts said, "but once they got into the game and got settled down, they got excited and the momentum carried over into the second game in a big way."
W-P pitcher Jennifer Nichols pitched a complete game in the opener and closed out the final inning of the nightcap.
"She's (Nichols) doing really well, really consistent," Potts said. "She did a great job hitting spots in the first game. Both of those pitchers (Nichols and second-game starter Sydney Eng) did a great job."
W-P travels to face Tri-Cities Prep Saturday for an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
