PASCO - Wa-Hi's girls tennis team swept past Chiawana here Wednesday, 7-0.
"All of the girls played really well today," Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said. "Claire (Konen) made her singles debut and put in a solid performance knocking off Chiawana's Kaytlyn Nelson 6-2, 6-0.
"Rachel (Schueller) also went back to singles for this match and pounded out a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles," he said.
"We also got two first-time singles wins from Lexi Swenson at No. 3 and Jaime Quaresma at No. 4. Both girls showed patience in letting points develop and great court positioning. It was rewarding to watch the hard work they have put in this season pay off."
The Blue Devils also enjoyed success in doubles.
"Our doubles teams continue to play well, win points and provide team confidence," Peck said. "Rosa Tobin and Mari Arceo teamed up again to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-3. Our No. 2 doubles team of Chantel Desjarlais and Allison Mehn brought their record to 2-0 by defeating their opponents 6-0, 6-0. And, Danielle Thongdy and Hailey Lewis proved to be a tough duo at No. 3 doubles besting their Riverhawks opponenets 6-3, 6-3.
"It was good to get a win after some tough losses," he said. "The girls have worked hard to improve and they showed their progress today."
