WALLA WALLA -- The City Council approved a $930,623 contract Wednesday night as part of a state Department of Ecology "agreed order" for cleanup at Sudbury Landfill Area Five.
Last year, the city agreed to work under agency guidelines to clean up groundwater and other contamination.
In return for working with the state, Ecology is expected to pay for 75 percent of the approved contract with Schwyn Environmental Services of Spokane.
The city also entered into a similar agreed order with Ecology last year for clean-up at Landfill Area Six, which included the burning of methane emitted at the site.
That $2.5 million project also received 75 percent funding from Ecology.
