Irma B. Christy left quietly in her sleep on 23 March 2012, after serving out 93 years of life. She was born Irma Arlene Barnett to Arthur and Pearl (Sutton) Barnett in the town of Gypsum, Kansas, on 20 Nov. 1918. Irma graduated from Junction City Junior/Senior High School in 1936 and Marymount Women's College in 1938. She married 1st Lieutenant Kenneth Christy in May of 1941. She served as a faithful Army wife for the next 24 years while working as a personal secretary in a variety of businesses, churches, and elementary schools. Irma retired in June 1981.
Irma was an outspoken member of the Catholic Church, the John Birch Society, the Republican Party, and the PIRA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Wayne Barnett; and her sister, Beth Ballard. Irma is survived by her son, John Christy; nephews, Barney and Mike Ballard; her niece, Bridget Barnett; and her seven grandchildren; and two

There will be no funeral. The surviving family members will hold a private memorial service. The family requests that interested parties make donations in the name of Irma Christy to the International Terrorism Victim Expense Reimbursement Program (IVERP).
