WALLA WALLA - Wa-Hi's girls' tennis team prevailed 5-0 here Thursday afternoon in a rain-shortened match against a shorthanded Pasco squad.
Claire Konen and Jennifer Bautista won straight-set singles matches for the Blue Devils while two other singles matches were rained out. Wa-Hi's No. 1 doubles team of Chantel Desiarlais and Allison Mehn also prevailed along with the doubles teams of Jaime Quaresma-Lexi Swenson and Danielle Thongdy-Hailey Lewis, who provided Wa-Hi's fourth and fifth team points.
"Pasco only brought eight players," Blue Devils coach Keven Peck noted. "I feel bad for Rachel Schueller and Rosa Tobin. We tried to get their singles matches going, but the courts just became too unplayable and unsafe.
"I am always impressed with how well the girls deal with adverse conditions that are thrown at them," Peck added. "Being a spring-sport athlete is always a great test in adversity, and today was a real test."
