Bulldog bats on fire in sweep of St. John-Endicott/Lacrosse-Washtucna

DAYTON - The bats are finally firing up for the Dayton Bulldogs.

Following an 11-hit, 7-0 shutout effort against Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia Saturday, Dayton backed that effort up with a sweep of St. John-Endicott/Lacrosse-Washtucna in Southeast 2B baseball Tuesday.

Colton Bickelhaupt gave the Bulldogs a complete-game shutout from the mound in the first game, a 10-0 mercy-rule victory, and Dayton withstood a three-run rally in the seventh inning of the nightcap to pick up an 8-4 victory.

"We left the bases loaded so many times it wasn't funny (in the six-game losing streak)," Dayton coach Sal Benavides said. "It made a big difference when the bottom of the lineup gets big hits as well as the top of the lineup."

Lowden Smith pitched a complete game in the nightcap and struck out 14 batters.

Bickelhaupt helped his own cause in the opener with a triple and a double.

Dayton outhit St. J-E/L-W 17-4 on the day, and had five triples, four doubles and a Hayden Fullerton home run.

The Bulldogs (5-7 SE2B, 9-9) face a road doubleheader against Liberty Christian Saturday at 11 a.m.
