Dolores Sheard May 14, 1926 - April 30, 2012 Dolores Gholson Taylor Sheard of Athena died April 30, 2012, in Walla Walla. The memorial service will be Friday, May 4, at the Memorial Hall, Main Street, Weston, at 11 a.m. Private interment will be at the Athena Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Athena Public Library or a charity of donor's choice.
One of four children, Dolores was born May 14, 1926, in Athena to Sheldon Dee and Kittie Gholson Taylor. She attended local schools and graduated in 1944 from Athena High School. She married Marville Frank Sheard, Feb. 20, 1946, in Pendleton, after helping to build the home they lived in for more than 60 years.
Dolores became Athena public librarian after her youngest grandson was born in November 1977 until her retirement of 20 years in June 1998. She was a member of Paradise Good Sams and enjoyed the friendship and camping trips. Dolores had a large circle of friends she visited regularly from Milton-Freewater to Pendleton. She was the ultimate supporter of her grandchildren and great grandchildren as they played sports, performed in concerts, and participated in school programs.
Dolores was a granddaughter of the late Umatilla County Sheriff Tillman David Taylor.
Surviving are two daughters, Rashell L. Lewis and husband Clifford D. Lewis of Longview, Wash.; Debra D. Carter and husband Leonard J. Carter of Athena; two granddaughters, Billie D. Entze and husband Kurt, and Becky D. Carter of Athena; two grandsons, Chad D. Lewis of Longview and Jeremy F. Lewis and wife Britt of Spokane; two great-granddaughters, Morgan E. and Taylor A. Entze of Athena; three great-grandsons, Pierce and Cooper Lewis of Spokane and Ryan Hardy of Athena. Husband, Marville; brother, Tillman Taylor; sister, Nylene Graham; and a baby brother preceded her in death.
