BOARDMAN - Mac-Hi's baseball team edged above the .500 mark here Tuesday with a 7-3 victory over host Riverside.
Sophomore Chase Copenhaver, making his first varsity start, and Troy Kessler combined on an eight-hitter as the Pioneers improved to 10-9 on the season.
Copenhaver worked the first 3 2/3 innings before being relieved by Kessler.
"He threw very well," Mac-Hi coach Mike Garcia said of Copenhaver. "That's what we asked for (three or four innings of work). He did a great job. He got a lot of fly-ball outs."
Offensively, Copenhaver helped his own cause with two of Mac-Hi's 11 hits.
Dylan Shuler, Patrick Sheets, and Taylor Hodgen also collected two hits apiece for the Pioneers.
"Taylor had a nice day," Garcia said. "He came up at critical times and was able to score runners.
""We're hitting the ball well," Garcia said. "We have close to 30 hits in the last three games, which is not too bad."
Mac-Hi resumes Greater Oregon League play at Baker on Friday.
