Wa-Hi junior among 30 students selected for state math academy

WALLA WALLA -- Walla Walla High School junior Kelsey Gabel is among 30 high school students selected to attend the University of Washington Mathematics Academy this summer.

The month-long program is sponsored by the university's Engineering Department and held on the Seattle campus.

To be considered, Gabel wrote two essays and submitted teacher and counselor recommendations as part of his application.

He has hopes of becoming an aerospace engineer. Gabel holds a 3.93 grade-point average at Wa-Hi.
