WALLA WALLA -- The American Red Cross has your Mother's Day gift already picked out. "When you donate blood, you give the ultimate gift--the gift of life," agency officials said.
Blood products are routinely transfused to those with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients, and accident and trauma victims. Volunteer blood donors are the primary source of blood used for transfusions, and the blood must be there before it is needed in order to save lives.
Blood donor events are scheduled for Tuesday, 1 to 6 p.m., at First Congregational Church, 73 S. Palouse St., and Wednesday, Eastgate Church, 380 N. Tausick Way, noon to 5 p.m.
Any healthy person age 16 or older -- or age 16 and 17 with signed parental consent -- and weighing at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate blood. Valid identification is required for all blood donations.
