Veterans welcome opening of center

More than 100 people attended the official opening of the Walla Walla Veterans Center on Friday.

The Color Guard opened up the ceremony and raised the flag before the national anthem was sung.

A representative from Sent. Maria Cantwell’s office attended as did state Rep. Terry Nealey.

All the volunteers and employees at the center are veterans, expect for Team Leader Dave Beebe. This allows veterans to get counseling assistance from veterans. Some veterans prefer to get their supportive care at a facility other than a VA, and find a comfort with a Veterans Center staffed by veterans.

The center is able to provide counseling support for family members as well, especially PTSD support, which affects the family members when a veteran is struggling with this disorder.
