EAST WENATCHEE - Three hits from Moe Handcox and two safeties, including a two-run, fourth-inning home run, from Michael Lesmeister were not enough here Saturday as Wa-Hi's baseball team saw its season come to an end with an 18-3 loss to Davis in the Columbia Basin Big Nine district playoffs.
Wa-Hi tallied the game's first run in the top half of the first inning before the Pirates scored twice in the first, three runs in the third, and four in the fourth - three of which came on a home run by Jens Jensen.
Davis scored four in the fourth inning, one in the fifth, and eight in the sixth.
Zach Alexander led the Pirates' 17-hit attack with four hits and Trent Dupre added three.
The Blue Devils ended the year with an overall record of 14-9.
"Our season wrapped up on a disappointing loss to a tough Davis club," Wa-Hi coach Keith Gradwohl said. "However, this season was far from disappointing. This team had a mix of sophomores, juniors, and seniors that had unbelievable camaraderie. Our six seniors - Moe Handcox, Cody Furstenberg, Josh Eggers, Will Parnicky, Michael Lesmeister and Taylor Lemke - supplied a backbone for a team that earned respect throughout the Big Nine."
