HELIX - Sherman County's Scot Stroud defeated Stanfield's Michael Gehrke 6-0, 6-0 to claim the boys individual championship here in action at the Helix tennis tournament.
On the girls side, Umatilla's Susan Routson defeated Helix' Dedra Nitz 8-5 in quarterfinal action and went on to win the girls championship with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Ione's Shadow Kendrick.
Mac-Hi's Braden Harwood reached the boys quarterfinals before losing to Umatilla's Martin Rubio 8-3.
In girls consolation action, Mac-Hi's Kaylee Davis claimed the consolation championship with an 8-6 win over Umatilla's Hannah Seufert. Nitz, for Heliz, bounced back from her quarterfinal loss to claim fourth place with a 8-1 win over Umatilla's Letica Alvarez.
In doubles action,Umatilla's Daniel Gacilazo and Edgar Magana defeated Terran Casper and Brian Simantel of Sherman County 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 11-9 to win the boys doubles title.
On the girls side, Sherman County's Krista Perisho and Chole Van Gilder won the title with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Umatilla's Muranda Cranston and Anali Rubio 6-4 6-3.
Mac-Hi's pair of Rafael Villagomez and Mauricio Gomez and the Helix pair of Greg Papinaeu and Josh Lambert both advanced to the boys doubles' semi finals.
Villagomez and Gomez lost to Casper and Simantel 6-4, 6-4. Papinaeu and Lambert were defeated by Gacilazo and Magana 6-2, 6-2.
Papinaeu and Lambert went on to defeat Villagomez and Gomez in a three set battle for third. The Helix pair claimed third with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win.
In girls doubles action, Cranston and Rubio defeated Mac-Hi's Vivian Diaz and Dulce Torres 8-1 in quarterfinal action. Mac-Hi's Courtney Koch and Kassidy Harris advanced to the semi finals with a 8-6 quarterfinal win of Riverside's Paola Cuevas and Laura Ponce.
Koch and Harris were knocked into consolation play as Cranston and Rubio prevailed 6-3, 6-1.
Leisl Heywood and Shailee Allen also reached the quarter finals for the Pioneers. Heywood and Allen were defeated by Sherman County's Krista Perisho and Chole Van Gilder 8-1.
Koch and Harris played for third place but were defeated by Stanfield's Yazell Chavez and Mariela Carrillo 8-2.
Umatilla took the boys team title with 38 points and the Pioneers finsihed fourth.
Sherman County won the girls title with 31 points. Mac-Hi was third with 27 points and Helix finished seventh.
