WALLA WALLA -- Two and a half years after it began, an investigation involving the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office remains unresolved.
Frank Harrill, FBI supervising senior agent in Spokane, said Friday there is no new information from his agency to release on the probe.
The investigation began in October 2009 when then-Sheriff Mike Humphreys requested the Washington State Patrol look into possible financial improprieties in the sheriff's office.
Officials have said the probe has focused on an individual, but requests for details have been denied on the grounds the matter is still under investigation. If the person involved was a public official and any wrongdoing amounted to a felony committed in connection with that person's duties or was a breach of their oath of office, the statute of limitations sets a 10-year window on prosecution.
Along with the WSP and the state Auditor's Office, the FBI became involved last year. Since the FBI's involvement, the WSP and Auditor's Office have deferred comment to that agency.
