Bullock leads Pioneer improvement at district tourney

UNION, Ore. - Mac-Hi's boys golfers finished off their season at the district tournament at Buffalo Peak Golf Course here Tuesday.

Ryan Bullock shot a career-best 78 on the first round to lead the Pioneers with a 78-89-167.

Bullock finished eighth to miss the state cut by three.

Freshman Sterling Sandberg bogeyed his first two holes Tuesday, but shot "by far his career best" with an 82 on the second round, Mac-Hi coach Barry Wofford said.

Sandberg finished 98-82-180.

Lucas Simpson (85-96-181) and Andrew Kain (94-87-181) were next in line for the Pioneers, with Rain Wheeler rounding out the Mac-Hi contingent (90-94-184).

Defending state champion La Grande won the tournament with a 631 two-day total.

Crook County was next at 665, Baker was third at 683, Mac-Hi was 699 and Ontario was 762.

"We showed lots of improvement," Wofford said of the Pioneers' season. "I was really happy with that."
