WALLA WALLA - Walla Walla High School seniors Gregory Heller and Kyle Jameson have been named Washington Scholars. The program recognizes the accomplishments of four high school students in each of the state's 49 legislative districts.

Students who rank in the top one percent of their graduating class are nominated by principals from public and private high schools for Washington Scholars recognition. Students qualify for nomination based on academic achievement, leadership, and community service. Because of reduced state revenues, the state's biennial budget does not include monetary awards for new Washington Scholars in 2011 and 2012.

Jameson is the son of Kirk and Lori Jameson and plans to attend the Air Force Academy, and will participate on the precision shooting rifle team.

Heller is the son of Cheryl and Stan Heller and plans to study economics and engineering at Bates College.
