PRESCOTT - Waitsburg-Prescott won the opening round of the District 9 playoffs Tuesday, defeating sixth-seeded Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia, 10-0, in five innings.
Pitchers Zach Bartlow and Chris Manzano combined for a two-hit shutout, with Bartlow getting the start and going five innings.
"We had balanced pitching and then our bats got going in the third inning," W-P coach Dustin Snedigar said. "Everybody played well and everybody played hard."
Riley Stevens led W-P at the plate with a 3-of-4 perfomance, including a double and three RBIs.
Brice Paxson was 2-for-4, including a game-ending RBI in the fifth inning.
W-P (10-4, 11-5) now faces Dayton Saturday at 1 p.m. at Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla for the right to travel to Adna for the Class 2B state playoffs.
"We payed well, we just have to keep it going," Snedigar said.
