WALLA WALLA -- The second annual VA Walking Safari, also known as the VA2K walk, will be May 16. Sign up is 9 a.m. in front of Building 86 at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center, 77 Waintwright Drive. The walk is open to all in the community.
Guides Larry Hooker and Mike Denny of the Walla Walla County Conservation District along with Gary Lenz, will lead the tour of the Fort Walla Walla Natural Area. They will discuss the natural history of the areas birds, insects, mammals and plants, as well as soils, streams, springs and seeps. There will also be a presentation on amphibians, reptiles and spiders as well as a talk on the human history of the Fort Walla Walla military post.
Participants may bring donations of sweat suits or separates, colored tee-shirts, other clothing items for men or women and Trac Phones or phone cards. The VA Medical Center cannot accept cash or gift card donations. All donations will go to veterans in need of assistance.
