UMATILLA COUNTY -- Umatilla County voters will choose between three candidates for Umatilla County sheriff this May, as John Trumbo ends his long tenure at the post.
Trumbo has endorsed Terry Rowan, who has been the undersheriff in Umatilla County for roughly seven years, and has been involved in law enforcement in Umatilla County for 23 years.
Rowan faces Robert Cannon and Alan Humphrey Jr. in the upcoming election. Cannon touts a long career with the Oregon State Police, and has previous experience working for the Umatilla and Morrow County Sheriff's Offices.
Humphrey is currently the chief investigator for the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, and has worked for the U.S. Department of Defense, Oregon Department of Corrections and the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office.
All three candidates have cited fiscal responsibility and holding criminals accountable as platforms during the campaign. Cannon and Humphrey have both stated they would also require Sheriff's Office administrators to do patrol, jail or other duties as a way to increase coverage in the county.
