Fight report leads to arrests and gun confiscation

WALLA WALLA -- Officers arrested two gang members Wednesday and confiscated a firearm from the suspects' vehicle.

According to police and Sheriff's Office reports, officers received a call of a fight between rival gangs in the 900 block of W. Birch at 12:45 p.m., but the suspects fled before officers arrived.

A short time later, two of the suspects were spotted near the west end of town by a sheriff's deputy.

Officers arrested Abel Valdez, 19, and a second, juvenile suspect; both had warrants, according to police.

During the search of the suspects' vehicle, police found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the trunk.

Valdez was arrested on investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The juvenile, who officers said claimed possession of the handgun, was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
