Trio arrested after break-in kitty-corner from dispatch office

WALLA WALLA -- Emergency dispatchers had a front-row seat early Wednesday when they witnessed a burglary taking place across the street at Singer's Chevron, 7 E. Rose St.

Dispatchers saw three youths -- a male, 15, and two females, 17 and 14 -- at the station around 12:10 a.m.,

According to police, the male smashed the front window with a flashlight and the younger female reached inside and grabbed six packages of cigars, cutting her hands on the broken glass.

The youths fled down the alley north of the gas station, but were immediately taken into custody by an officer.

Paramedics treated the younger girl's cuts.

All three were arrested on investigation of second-degree burglary and booked into Walla Walla County Juvenile Justice Center.

Damage to the window was estimated at about $750.
