Wa-Hi hands out tennis awards


WALLA WALLA - Wa-Hi senior Blake Rowley was named all-Big Nine first team selection following the regular season.

Rowley was joined by Blue Devil teammates earning honorable mention. James Tupper-Bridges, Josh Kuznetsov and Drew Swenson had that honor.

Wa-Hi also held its awards dessert Wednesday, with senior Drew Swenson drawing Most Valuable Player.

Rowley and senior Tupper-Bridges are Team Captains, sophomore Doug Rowley and junior Zack Anderson are Most Improved, and Rowley also was Most Inspirational and Senior Scholar.

The Blue Devils also earned Team Academic Recognition-Distinguished Scholar Award with a 3.416 GPA.

Wa-Hi heads to the district tournament in Wenatchee Saturday and Monday.

Rowley has the No. 2 seed in singles in the 28-player draw, with Tupper-Bridges and John Meliah taking the fourth seed in doubles.

Konen earns all-Big Nine first teamtennis honor; Schueller second,

Wa-Hi's Claire Konen earned all-Big Nine first team accolades following the regular season.

Blue Devil teammate Rachel Schueller was named to the second team, and Chantel Desjarlais honorable mention.

Wa-Hi held its awards dessert on Wednesday, with Konen and Desjarlais earning Captains Awards.

Players' Player Award went to Schueller, Most Inspirational to Desjarlais and Most Improved to Lexi Swenson.

Wa-Hi heads to the district tournament in Wenatchee Saturday and Monday.

Konen and Schueller take a second seed in doubles play, which gives them a bye in Saturday's first round.
