Athena City Council members are Eric Pickard, Carol Speed, LaVerne Mitchell, Deborah Hayward and John Shafer. With Shafer absent Thursday, the Council:
Planning committee: A variance permit for Larry and Donna Hodge died for lack of a motion.
City recorder: Approved permanent hiring of Michelle Fox as assistant city recorder. Unanimous.
Salaries: Approved tackling salary adjustments and discussed evaluation forms, which are due by July 1.
Library: Approved grant from Athena Library Friends Assocation to Athena Public Library. Unanimous.
Water system: Heard an update on the water system from Brad Baird of Anderson Perry.
Cleanup: Discussed cleanup of Waterman Gulch.
Judge: Renewed Judge Jim Barrow's contract. Unanimous.
Pool: Set rate for passes to public pool. Family season pass is $50; under 2 is free each day; over 2 is $1 per day for swimming. The rates are the same as last year. Unanimous.
Budget: Approved budget calendar. Unanimous.
Surplus: Discussed disposal of surplus property. Action is planned for June.
