MILTON-FREEWATER - Ontario used the big inning to sweep a Greater Oregon League baseball doubleheader here Saturday.
The Tigers hung a six-spot on Mac-Hi in the first game to blow open a 6-3 game and Ontario went on to post a 15-4 win.
The nightcap saw Ontario score six runs in its first at bat. Mac-Hi answered behind a grand slam home run from Jake Morris to cut the Tiger lead to 6-4 after one.
The back and forth slugfest continued as the Pioneers scored four in the fourth to cut the Ontario lead to 13-12 after four.
Ontario struck for seven runs in the visitor fifth and pulled out a 22-12 win to complete the sweep.
"In the first game, we were within distance through five," Mac-Hi coach Mike Garcia said. "We fell apart in the sixth, but they are a good hitting team and hit some gappers."
Dylan Shuler, Morris, and Kevin Cuellar paced the Pioneer attack with two hits each.
Ontario repeated the same mo in game two. The Pioneers cut the lead to one, but the Tigers answered with a seven spot in the fifth and took control.
"We got within 12-13 and gave it back," Garcia said. "You can't let a good hitting team regain the momentum. We have to do a better job."
The Pioneers expect to have a playoff game Friday, but a Monday draw will determine the state playoff picture.
