Yaks stifle Warriors

Yakima Valley limits the Warriors to just six hits in a pair of losses.

YAKIMA - Yakima Valley pitchers limited Walla Walla Community College to six hits here Saturday in the regular season finale of NWAACC East Region baseball action.

Jake Fife blanked the Warriors on two hits in pitching the complete game 4-0 Yak win in the opener.

Kyle Garvin, with ninth inning relief from Seth Darling, limited WWCC to four hits and one run in winning game two 6-1 and completing the sweep for YVC.

Joe Arlt gave up a first inning run and yielded three in the third in the opener, but then the Warrior left hander blanked the Yaks the rest of the way, but Fife had all he needed.

Tony Salas with a second-inning single and Kasey Knigge with a sixth-inning single were the only hits the Warriors could muster off of Fife.

"We wasted a good pitching performance by Joe," WWCC coach Dave Meliah said.

Jarrod Turner's single in the WWCC seventh led to the only Warrior run of the afternoon. Ryan James got Turner home with a ground out, but Garvin closed the door and YVC went on to the 6-1 win.

WWCC finishes the regular season at 27-17 overall and 16-12 in the East.

The Warriors open the East Region Playoffs Friday in Yakima with a 1 p.m. contest against Columbia Basin.

"We are going to have to play much better in the East Region Playoff if we want to go further than that," Meliah said.
