WALLA WALLA - DeSales brushed up for its regional baseball game against Lake Roosevelt on Saturday with a 8-0 shutout of visiting La Grande at Ray Lane Field to end the regular season Tuesday.
"I don't mind playing right before regional, they're good people to play," Irish coach Kim Cox said of the make-up game from a rainout.
DeSales scored lone runs in the second and third innings before breaking the game open in the fifth inning.
Travis Haen and Spencer Cordeiro walked to start the inning, adn Tim Caudill flied out.
Cameron Richman then doubled - the first of three doubles in the inning - to drive Haen and Cordeiro in.
Logan Hoeft then singled, Cody Josifek was hit by a pitch, and Kyler Pommerening then doubled.
Joe Duehn's double capped the six-run inning for the Irish.
Hoeft went the first four innings on the mound for DeSales, with Richman relieving.
"I thought both Logan and Cameron threw the ball well," Cox said. "There was only strikeout in the entire game, so they were good at getting ground balls and collecting outs."
The Irish play Lake Roosevelt at 1 p.m. Saturday at Borleske Stadium in the Walla Walla regional. The winner continues play at 4 p.m. against the winner of the 10 a.m. game at Borleske. Lind-Ritzville and Northwest Christian played Tuesday to face Warden in the early game Saturday.
"We have a group of kids that like the game of baseball," Cox said of the Irish. "They've been a pleasure to be around. They've worked hard all year. I think they'll play hard."
Waitsburg-Prescott opens regional play against Concrete at Adna High School at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The state tournament continues the next week in Ellensburg.
