Timely hit ends TigerScots' softball season

ECHO - Weston-McEwen played Stanfield/Echo three times prior to Tuesday's game in the Special District 5 softball playoffs, and all three times the games were decided in the final inning.

Tuesday was no different, as a timely hit from Stanfield/Echo forced accross a run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 3-3 deadlock and end the TigerScots' season.

"We had one win at home and a doubleheader on the road - we lost in the eighth and 11th innings," W-M coach Jeff Griggs said. "We played them four times and the games were decided by four runs and four extra innings."

Weston-McEwen scored a run in the second when No. 7 batter Kristen Chase doubled and Taryn Coffman followed with a triple to score her.

Molly von Borstel hit a two-run homer with two outs gone in the third to push the W-M lead to 3-0, but a pair of sacrifice flys and a passed ball allowed the Cougars to even the score in the third.

The TigerScots end the season at 11-9 and graduate four seniors: Rilei Hill, Morgan Entze, Christan Chase and McKenzie Fuhrman.

"We're going to miss that core of seniors," Griggs said. "Three of them served as captains for me and they brought a lot on and off the field."
