Aug. 5, 1927 - May 13, 2012
Elsie passed away on Mother's Day, May 13, 2012, at her apartment in Quail Run Retirement Community in Walla Walla. Elsie was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Dickenson, N.D., to John and Emma Emmil. She grew up on a farm in Dickenson and was one of four children. The family moved to Washington state when she was a teenager, and she met her future husband, John (Bud) DeVoir.
They were married at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Walla Walla on Nov. 11, 1947. She and Bud raised three children. She worked as a bakery clerk at Fleeners Grocery Store for many years. Elsie enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling with her husband, family and friends. She and Bud enjoyed dancing, especially at German Polka Fest. After her husband passed away, Elsie received news she had a brother who she thought had died at birth, but was in fact living and had been given up for adoption. Her brother, Bob, 21 years younger, came to meet her for the first time June of 2011. Bob brought much joy and happiness to her in the almost one year of meeting.
Elsie is survived by her brother, Bob Dalziel and his wife Karen of Redmond, Wash.; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Robyn DeVoir of College Place; daughter, Lorraine Locklin of Spokane; one granddaughter; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her Quail Run family. She was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; her husband, Bud; and son, Clinton.
