SPOKANE - Wa-Hi's Claire Konen and Rachel Schueller finished fourth at the regional tennis tournament here Saturday.
Blue Devil teammates Chantel Desjarlais and Allison lost their first match and did not place.
"Claire (Konen) and Rachel (Schueller) got off to a strong start defeating a solid Mead team of Austen Tullis and Ellie Ferderer, 6-4, 6-1," Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said. "However, in the second and third matches, Claire and Rachel struggled. In each of the matches they took their opponents to a set tie break, but couldn't find the final point to take the set. They finished in fourth place and one spot out of a trip to state.
"Regardless, I was proud of their effort. They never gave up and they fought through some major adversity."
The duo followed their victory over the Mead team with losses to Central Valley and Lewis and Clark teams.
Desjarlais and Mehn fell to Lewis and Clark's Hailey Strandness and Rachel Smith, but not without a fight.
"Chantel and Allison had a good showing in their first match against LC's Hailey Strandness and Rachel Smith, taking them to task in the first set 6-7 (5-7)," Peck said. "It was a close set and could have gone either way.
"But again, in what seemed to be a theme for the day, the girls struggled to get the final point to end the set.
"Chantel and Allison dropped the second set 3-6 as LC stepped up their game and could do no wrong," he said. "Chantel and Allison are fighters, though, and they made LC earn every point. They were a lot of fun to watch all season and it was no different today."
Peck said he was happy with the season.
"It was another long day of tennis for the girls, and though it didn't end up as well as we had hoped, both doubles teams had a great season," he said. "They represented Walla Walla High School very well and can be very proud of their accomplishments."
